UATV Sports

HEY THERE WILDCATS, THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

WELL CATS IT WAS AN INTERESTING THANKSGIVING FOR THE ARIZONA MENS BASKETBALL TEAM, AND A GOOD ONE FOR THE FOOTBALL TEAM, LETS GET RIGHT ONTO THE RECAP.

BEFORE WE GET TO THOSE TWO SPORTS, LETS TALK SOME VOLLEYBALL. OVER THE WEEKEND, THE ARIZONA WOMENS VOLLEYBALL TEAM WAS SWEPT BY THE UCLA BRUINS AND THEN FELL TO THE USC TROJANS 3-1 IN A VERY COMPETEIVE MATCH. CERTAINLY A TOUGH WAY TO ENTER YOUR THANKSGIVING WEEKEND, HOWEVER THE CATS DID FIND OUT THEIR TOURNAMENT FATE FOR THE 2009 NCAA VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND FOR THEIR SAKE, THEY MAY WANNA BRING SOME BEADS ALONG FOR THE TRIP. THAT’S RIGHT ARIZONA, THE LADY CARS ARE HEADED TO THE BIG EASY. NUMBER 19 ARIZONA WILL TAKE ON TEXAS A &M IN BATON ROUGE THIS COMEING FRIDAY. THIS IS THE FIRST APPEARANCE FOR THE CATS IN THE TOURNAMENT SINCE 2005, SO A HEARTY CONGRATS TO THEM, AND OF COURSE, A HEARTY BEAR DOWN. GOOD LUCK LADIES. SIDE NOTE, THE PAC-10 HAD 8 TEAMS SELECTED TO THE TOURNAMENT…ARE YOU SERIOUS?!? THAT’S RIDICULOUS. THE ONLY TWO TO NOT MAKE IT? OREGON STATE…WHO CARES, AND OF COURSE OUR FAVORITE COMMIUNITY COLLEGE TO THE NORTH, ARIZONA STATE…HAHAHAHA…EXCUSE ME…MOVING ON…

WELL OVER THE WEEK, THE ARIZONA MENS BASKETBALL TEAM PRATICIPATED IN THE 2009 MAUI INVITATIONAL, A VERY NICE HONOR AND PRESEASON TOURNAMENT. THE CATS CAME IN AS A QUESTIONABLE TEAM AT BEST, NO ONE REALLY KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT OF THE MOSTLY FRESHMAN TEAM, AND AFTER THIS WEEK…I STILL DON’T REALLY KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT, BUT LET ME TRY MY BEST. THIS CONFERENCE IS SO MESSED UP. WE OPENED UP AGAINST WISCONSIN, ANOTHER BUBBLE TEAM MUCH LIKE US, AND THIS MAY HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE WORST GAMES IVE EVER SEEN. THERE WERE OVER 50 FOULS IN THIS GAME? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WE MADE SOME REAL BIG FRESHMAN MISTAKES AND IT REALLY COST US, MISSED FREE THROWS WERE THE DOWNFALL OF OUR TEAM, SO NOW WE SUFFERED OUR FIRST LOSS AS A TEAM, AND WE WENT INTO FACING COLORADO IN THE NEXT ROUND. BETTER GAME, STILL NOT UP TO THE CALIBUR THAT WE COULD BE, BUT BETTER. SOLID WIN. THEN WE FACED VANDERBILT…UGHH IT SUCKS TO SEE A GAME YOU SHOULD WIN AND THEN LOSE. ANOTHER LOSS. THE PAC 10 IS SO MESSED UP. UCLA LOSING TO EVERY TEAM (PORTLAND LONG BEACH STATE FULLERTON) OREGON GETTING BLOWN OUT AT HOME BY MONTANA. CAL NOT LOOKING IMPRESSIVE ANYMORE. WEDNESDAY ILL HAVE A NEW PAC 10 PREDICTION FOR YOU. MOVING ON

FOOTBALL IS BACK FOLKS. AND IT WAS THE TERRITORIAL CUP. WE CAME INTO THE GAME FAVORVED AND WE SURE DIDN’T PLAY LIKE IT. WE MANAGED TO PULL IT OUT 20-17 IN THE END ON A TERRIBLE CHOCK BY MR. WILLIAMS OF ASU, (THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR CELEBRATING). WE NOW HEAD TO USC ON DECEMBER 5 ON ABC. THIS GAME IS HUGE. WE MANAGED TO SQEAK BY A FEW GAMES, AND USC HAS LOOKED JUST AWFUL THIS SEASON. AND WE HAVE PLAYED THEM VERY WELL IN THE PAST TWO YEARS, AND I THINK THIS MAY BE THE YEAR TO FINALLY OVER POWER THEM AND MAKE IT TO THE HOLIDAY BOWL. ILL BREAK IT ALL DOWN FOR YOU ON WEDNESDAY.

BUT FOR NOW, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR MW CATS, THIS IS ALEX “I HAD A DEVIL FOR THANKSGIVING” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YA AT THE GAME.

Arizona Football: Part 2

So as we saw in the last post, Arizona was sitting pretty at 3-1 and 1-0 in conference play, right on the cusp of being ranked again for the first time in a long time. The next game was a very important one for the cats, a showdown with the always dangerous Washington Huskies, who had one of the best quarterbacks in the pac-10, Jake Locker. To be completely honest, this game shouldn’t have even been close. Arizona totally outplayed Washington, but again, because of poor road play, and the inability to close out games in a hostel environment, we allowed the Huskies to hang around the entire game, and what happened at the end is still something I cannot explain, even until this day. With Arizona up 33-29 with under three minutes left in the game, Foles threw a bad ball to a falling Dealshaun Dean. The ball “bounced off” his foot right into the arms of a waiting Washington defensive lineman, who caught it, and ran it all the way back for a touchdown. The Wildcats fell behind 36-33 and couldn’t get over the roar of the opposing crowd or the intimidating field and fell by that score. This is the kind of football that we are to familiar with at Arizona, seeing a team that should be good, choke. However, I was determined to see this team through. After a bye week, it was finally time to come to our home stadium and for our home Zona Zoo of 10,000. It was a big game as we found ourselves at one and one in conference play. Stanford came in with one of the best running ends in the conference with Toby Gerhardt. It was a back and forth game the entire time and Stanford looked like they were gonna pull away until the crowd got loud and you could feel the energy lift back into Arizona as they stormed ahead and pulled out the victory 43-38. And finally after two more great home victories, we found ourselves at eight and two, and five and one in conference play. This was also the closest we had been to first play in years, and was also the first time we were playing as a ranked team since 2000. Needless to say this looked like it could be the year to go to the first Rose Bowl in school history. Oh how wrong we could be. We had four games left the on the schedule next week at Cal, home against the first place Oregon, and then we finished our games on the road at our arch rival ASU, and then at USC. All we needed to do is beat Oregon and USC and just win one of the other two games, and the pac-10 crown would be ours. Much easier said than done. Over the past few weeks, we have seen the true determination of this team, and also see how the Wildcats could go through tremendous heartbreak and sorrow.

Arizona Football: Part 1

I want to talk about Arizona football today. I think that this season has been the most stressful yet most exciting season of football of my college career, and possibly my entire life. This season, the Arizona Wildcats have been regarding the best team in the Pacific- 10 conference, and at others, among the bottom feeders as well. This kind of “roller coaster” season really goes overlooked and takes a toll on the community, the school, the whole student body, and especially, my heart. This year started out differently than any other in recent memory, with a realistic dream of roses. The winner of the pac-10 gets a trip to the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, and trip the Arizona Wildcats have never experienced in their rich football history. Also, instead of playing our arch rival ASU at the last game of the regular season, we were set to play the USC Trojans, since the two teams were the favorites to compete for the Rose Bowl. This prediction was a good one, but couldn’t have been more off. The cats came into the season with a quick two wins against a good Central Michigan team, and a bleak Northern Arizona, and then it was time for the first true test of the season, a showdown with the Iowa Hawkeyes, in Iowa City. This was also a alma mater game for head coach Mike Stoops, who was a Big 10 all conference player at Iowa. The cats were outplayed, and fell to a powerful Iowa team 27-17 which gave the Wildcats their first wake up call of the season, but it certainly wouldn’t be the last. This Arizona team certainly didn’t have it easy, they play away from home for 30 straight days, good enough for the second longest streak in the nation, right behind Hawaii, who had 31. It was finally time for the pac-10 season to start, and our first match up was against the Oregon State Beavers. The Beavers have one of the best running backs in the country on their team, Jacquizz Rodgers, and he is always a threat to explode, and this game wouldn’t be any different. It looked as if the Wildcats had no answer for the tough offense of Oregon State, and were struggling to stay in the game. However, with our new quaterback Nick Fowles making his first start of the season, the cats had a renewed sense of play, and managed to hold out against the Beavers to move to one and zero in conference play. This was more than just a conference win for the Wildcats, it was the start of believing. Arizona has never been a good road team under Coach Stoops, but they played a hard game, and managed to pull it out, and not let it go at the end like in recent memory. In the upcoming weeks, we would travel to Seattle to take on the Huskies of Washington, and what happened there was most definitely a sight to see.

Ready for the end

HEY THERE WILDCATS, THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

WELL ITS FINALLY THANKSGIVING WEEK CATS AND I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I COULD USE THE BREAK, BUT FIRST,WE’VE GOT A LOT TO GO OVER SO LETS GET RIGHT TO IT.

WELL I DON’T USUALLY DO THIS FIRST, BUT I FEEL WE NEED TO COVER THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME THAT HAPPENED THIS PAST WEEKEND. AS YOU SHOULD KNOW, WE HOSTED THE OREGON DUCKS THIS PAST SATURDAY IN HOPES OF KEEPING THE ROSE BOWL DREAM ALIVE. IN MY OPINION, ARIZONA REALLY DID PLAY THEIR HEARTS OUT THE ENTIRE TWO OVERTIMES, BUT JUST GOT TO TIRED. BUT I HAVE NO RESERVATIONS SAYING THAT THIS MAY HAVE BEEN THE MOST EXCITING ARIZONA FOOTBALL GAME I HAD BEEN TO IN MY CAREER HERE. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT WE PLAYED A BETTER TEAM AND THE END RESULT IS THAT OREGON IS PLAYING FOR THE ROSES NEXT WEEK, WHILE ARIZONA IS GOING FOR THE SUN BOWL OR VEGAS BOWL, MAYBE THE POINTSETTIA BOWL. BUT IT WASN’T MENANT TO BE AS THE CATS FELL TO THE DUCKS 44-41 IN OTS. AS FOR THE STUDENTS WHO JUMPED ONTO THE FIELD IT GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT YOU DON’T NNOW EVERYTHIGN AND TO STOP CELEBRATING DISRESPECTUFULLY. WE HAVE THE TERRITOARILA CUP THIS SATURDAY AND ASU IS NO TEAM NO OVERLOOK. LOOK FOR BOTH TO COME OUT STRONG AND ATTACK THE RUN. I THINK ARIZONA IS TO STRONG AND TOO UPSET THIS WEEK TO LOSE TO THE DEVILS, ARIZONA 38 ASU 24, BEAR DOWN.

IN VOLLEYBALL NEWS, THE ARIZONA WOMEN BOUNCED BACK TO BEAT THE CAL BEARS THIS WEEKEND. THIS GAME WAS THE FINAL HOME MATCH FOR THE 19TH RANKED LADIES AND THEY SHOWED IT, BEATING NUMBER 11 CAL THREE GAMES TO ONE. THE CATS MOVED TO 19-8 ON THE YEAR WITH AN 8-8 RECORD IN CONFERENCE PLAY. UP NEXT IS THE FINAL REGULAR SEASON MATCH IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AS THE CATS TAKE ON UCLA AND USC, WE’LL HAVE THE RESULTS AND ANALYSIS AFTER THE BREAK SO GOOD LUCK LADIES.

FINALLY, THE MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAMS TIPS OFF THEIR THIRD GAME OF THE YEAR IN THE MAUI INVITTIATIONAL TOMORROW AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN. THE CATS ARE FLYING HIGH ON TWO STRAIGHT WINS AND LOOK TO ATTACK THE INSIDE PRESENCE OF THE BADGERS WITH QUICK BALL MOVEMENT, AND A FASTER OFFENSE IN GENERAL. I SEE THE CATS PLAYING INTO THANKSGIVING AND BEATING THE BADGERS 86-74 IN THIS ONE, LETS HOPE IM RIGHT, (I USUALLY AM).

WELL CATS I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “BUDISH” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

Sports! (A good One)

HEY THERE WILDCATS THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT IS U OF A SPORTS.

WELL THANKSGIVING IS RAPIDLY APPROACHING US, BUT TO DISTRACT YOU UNTIL THEN, LETS SEE WHATS IN STORE THIS WEEK.

IN SOME WOMENS VOLLEYBALL NEWS, THE NUMBER 19 ARIZONA WILDCATS WILL HOST STANFORD AND CAL THIS WEEK IN THE FINAL REGULAR HOMESTAND OF THE SEASON. STANFORD IS NUMBER SIX IN THE NATION WHILE CAL CHECKS IN AT NUMBER 11 RESPECTIVELY. THE CATS ARE SEVEN AND SEVEN IN PAC 1O PLAY AND ARE LOOKING TO REBOUND FROM A SWEEP IN THE BAY AREA EARLIER THIS SEASON. THE CATS ARE 11-2 AT HOME THIS SEASON. THEY END THE REGULAR SEASON OVER THANKSGIVING WEEKEND AT NUMBER 7 UCLA ON FRIDAY AND NUMBER 15 USC ON SATURDAY, AND LEARN THEIR TOURNAMENT FATE ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 29 SO GOOD LUCK THE REST OF THE SEASON LADIES, AND BEAR DOWN.

IN SOME BASKETBALL NEWS, THE U OF A MEET THE RICE OWLS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY THIS THURSDAY. RICE COMES INTO THE MEETING AT 3-0 WHILE THE CATS ARE FRESH OFF THEIR 87-70 WIN OVER NAU ON SUNDAY. FRESHMAN KEVIN PARROM IS OUT 4-8 WEEKS WITH A STRESS FRACTURE SO DON’T EXPECT HIM IN THIS ONE, BUT WITH THE STELLAR PLAY OF HORNE, WISE AND THE CLUMP OF FRESHMAN WILLIAMS, JONES, HILL AND NATYAZKO THE CATS LOOK TO RUN THE OWL RIGHT OUT OF THE BUILDING. I DON’T SEE TO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THIS ONE, CATS TAKE IT BY 15, AND MAKE SURE TO TRY THOSE NEW CHANTS SEAN MILLER DESCRIBED AT HIS MEETING WITH STUDENTS, JUST LISTEN AT THE GAME AND YOULL PICK IT UP QUICK, ITS NOT TO HARD. I GOTTA GIVE A QUICK SIDE NOTE AND ADMIT THAT MY USUALLY FANTASTIC CONFERENCE PREDICTIONS MAY BE OFF, WITH TEAMS LIKE STANFORD AND UCLA LOSING TO TEAMS LIKE UC SAN DIEGO AND CAL STATE FULLERTON….THE PAC MIGHT JUST REALLY SUCK THIS YEAR.

WELL GUYS THIS WEEKEND BRINGS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOTBALL GAMES IN RECENT MEMORY, AND THE FINAL HOME GAME OF THE SEASON. WIN, KEEP THE ROSE BOWL DREAMS ALIVE AND LOOK GOOD FOR OVER 50% OF THE NATION. LOSE…UGHHHH SAME OLD DISSRESPECT. THE CATS TAKE ON THE OREGON DUCKS THIS SATURDAY IN THE FIRST OF THREE STRAIGHT ABC GAMES FOR ARIZONA. WITH STAR RUNNING BACK LEGEURE BLOUNT REENSTATED AT SUCH A CONVIENT TIME FOR OREGON, THE DUCKS LOOK THE BEST TEAM IN THE CONFERENCE EASILY. BUT DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE CATS AT HOME. THE GAME IS A RED OUT GAME, WHERE THE TEAM WILL DON RED JERSEYS AND EVERYONE IS ENCORAGED TO WEAR RED. COLLEGE GAMEDAY, THE PREMEIR COLLEGE SPORTS SHOW IS BROADCASTING LIVE FROM THE UA MALL THIS SATURDAY AT 8 AS WELL. YOURS TRULY WILL BE THERE BRIGHT AND EARLY, SO IF YOU SEE ME COME TELL ME HOW BAD I AM AT PREDICTING WINS, CAUSE IM GONNA DO IT CATS, HERE IT IS…SHADES OF TWO YEARS AGO, CATS 27 DUCKS 24. SHOOT ME, IM TO GOOD.

WELL CATS, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “I THINK DUCK SOUNDS GOOD FOR THANKSGIVING” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

For the Wildcat

As Americans we value the judicial system. So it is baffling that when Phi Kappa Psi was found not guilty of stealing of 10,000 Wildcats by the judicial board at the U of A, Greek life, and most importantly, UAPD, the Daily Wildcat will simply not let it go. To continually libel our entire fraternity and ruin the name of a national group that so many have contributed to over the years is just wrong and disrespectful. The Wildcat does this because the storyline of the frat boy, and frankly, you cannot blame them for it. The power of the pen is very strong, and to be honest, I believe that the Wildcat needs to consider the consequences of your articles. The image of fraternities in this paper has always been stereotypical and has always outplayed the truth. The Wildcat has consistenly portrayed all of Phi Kappa Psi to be upper class, arrogant, rude, aggressive partiers, but most importantly, thieves as well.

The truth is that we couldn’t be further away from those accusations. We are easily the most diverse fraternity on the Arizona campus, and I couldn’t be more proud of that fact. There are people from all walks of life. People who can’t afford to be in out fraternity, but we make it work through scholarships and payment plans. Men of all races, black, white, Indian, Mexican, and Native American. We have so many different religions and ideals and we all still find a way to get along, and be brothers. We have people that have 4.0 GPA’s and for those who don’t, we have study tables every week to help people improve their grades. We always do what is best for the chapter and the fraternity’s name as a whole, because we care about one another, and no selfish act could change that.

However, on the fateful morning of October 8, 2009, someone stole 10,000 copies of the Wildcat. Without a blink of an eye, “anonymous tips” come flooding in claiming that Phi Psi was responsible. The reason? Because they were in the Police Beat about a girl accusing them of giving her a roofy at a party. Her symptoms, as documented and reported by the Daily Wildcat were, “The woman reported that at approximately 11:30 p.m., she had begun feeling “overly flirtatious.” The woman also claimed to have experienced a loss of both hearing and bladder control. The woman told officers that her friend had walked her back to her residence at the Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall at approximately 1 a.m. on Sept. 27, at which point she vomited. The woman’s friends later told her that between the hours of 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 1 a.m. on Sept. 27, she had made out with three different men at the party.” These type of accusations against fraternities are in the Police Beat every week, including Phi Psi in the past, and the papers have never been stolen. So what would make a fraternity do it this time?

The fact of the matter is that this type of libel, and slander goes unnoticed because it’s assumed that whatever is printed in the Wildcat is true. They would never take advantage of their print duties, even in the opinion section. Well the fact of the matter is that you did do that. You took a situation where you lost and turned it on an innocent fraternity to make them look like the culprit, even after they had been proven innocent. The editorial column and opinion section of the Wildcat is supposed to be a place for people to express feelings about

U of A sports!

HEY THERE WILDCATS THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT IS U OF A SPORTS.

WELL IT WAS AN INTERESTING SPORTS WEEKEND FOR THE U OF A CATS, BUT ITS ONLY GONNA GET MORE CRAZY SO LETS SEE WHATS GOING ON.

WELL THE WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM HAS PLENTY OF REASON TO CELEBRATE. AS THE NUMBER 24 RANKED TEAM EARNED ON OF THE 13 AT LARGE BIDS TO THIS YEARS NCAA NATIONALS IN INDIANA. THIS IS THE FIRST NATIONAL BID FOR THE LADY CATS SINCE 2001. THIS IS A TEAM THAT HAS NO SENIORS, BUT ARE HANDLEING THE PRESSURE JUST FINE, AND ARE LOOKING TO MAKE A DEEP RUN IN NATIONALS, SO GOOD LUCK LADIES, AND BEAR DOWN.

IN SOME VERY EXCITING WOMENS HOOPS NEWS, THE LADY CATS HAVE MOVED TO 2-0 IN THE IONA TOURNAMENT DEFEATING THE TOURNAMENT HOST 75-70 IN OT ON SATURDAY, AND YESTERDAY DEFEATING MIAMI OF OHIO 91-67. THIS COULD BE A TURNING POINT FOR THE LADY CATS AS THEY SHOWED GOOD BALL MOVEMENT AND RANGE. NEXT WEEK THEY HEAD TO SAN DIEGO TO PARTICIPATE IN THE JHG JAM ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 21 TO TAKE ON THE HOST TEAM SAN DIEGO STATE AT 6:30 P.M. SO GOOD LUCK LADIES, AND BEAR DOWN.

HMMM SO WHAT COULD WE TALK ABOUT NEXT? OH YA FOOTBALL. WELL CATS THE 4 GAME WIN STREAK IN THE PAC-10 WASN’T MEANT TO BE, AS THE CATS CAME LIMPING OUT OF BERKLEY WITH A 24-16 LOSS HANDED TO THEM, MAKING THE ROSE BOWL DREAM A MUCH HARDER (BUT STILL DOABLE) GOAL. THE CATS WERE JUST OUTPLAYED, BY A TEAM WITHOUT THEIR BEST PLAYER. BUT THAT WASN’T THE DOWNFALL FOR THE CATS, IT TOOK A STELLAR GAME FROM BACKUP RUNNING BACK SHANE VEREEN, A RIDCULOUS TACKLE FROM THE OREGON KICKER, AND A BLANTANT NO-CALL TO HELP THE CATS FALL. SO BASICALLY SAME OLD STORY. WITH THE LOSS, THE CATS FALL TO 6-3 ON THE SEASON, WITH A 4-2 RECORD IN CONFERENCE, AND AS MUCH AS I HATE TO SAY IT, NO MORE RANKINGS, BUT THAT DOESN’T MATTER. BUT I DO HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS, COLLEGE GAMEDAY HAS PICKED THE UPCOMING OREGON ARIZONA GAME TO HOST THEIR SHOW. ABC HAS PICKED UP THE GAME BUT THERE IS NO OFFICIAL TIME YET. BUT THIS GAME MEANS EVERYTHING FOR ARIZONA. NO WIN, NO ROSE BOWL. THE CATS NEED TO WIN OUT IF THE WANT TO SEE OHIO STATE IN PASADENA, SO DON’T GIVE UP YET CATS, ILL HAVE ANALYSIS ON THE GAME WEDNESDAY SO STAY TUNED.

AND FINALLY, ITS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR CATS, COLLEGE BASKETBALL IS OFFICIALLY BACK IN TUCSON. ARIZONA STARTED OFF THE SEAN MILLER ERA WITH A WIN SUNDAY AFTERNOON OVER THE ALWAYS FIRCE NORTHERN ARIZONA 87-70 TO MOVE TO 1-0 ON THE SEASON. ARIZONA HAD THEIR 23 POINT SECOND HALF LEAD AS THEY COOLED BUT REALLY SHOWED GOOD DEPTH IN THIS ONE. FRESHMAN SOLOMON HILL LEAD THE CATS WITH 17 POINTS AND NICY WISE CHIPPED IN 15 BIG ONES HIMSELF. JAMELLE HORNE STEPPED INTO HIS PRESSURE ROLL NICELY, ADDING A DOUBLE DOUBLE OF 14 POINTS AND 11 BOARDS, AND KYLE FOGG ADDED 10 AS WELL. UP NEXT FOR THE CATS IS A BATTLE WITH RICE UNIVERSITY THIS THURSDAY AT 8:30 SO MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR TICKETS, CAUSE ITS MILLER TIME.

WELL CATS I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “I STILL SMELL THE ROSES” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

SPORTS!

HEY THERE WILDCATS THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

WELL IT WAS A GREAT HOMECOMING WEEKEND CATS, AND WE GOT SOME GREAT THINGS COMING UP IN SPORTS THIS WEEK, SO LETS TAKE A LOOK.

IN SOME WOMENS HOOPS NEWS, THE LADY CATS HANDLED GRAND CANYON STATE EASILY, WINNING 83-56. THE CATS GET OUT OF THE PRESEASON WITH A PREFECT RECORD AND NOW HEAD INTO THE REGULAR SEASON AGAINST IONA COLLEGE (THAT’S THE ACTUAL NAME I DON’T REALLY OWN A COLLEGE) THIS SATURDAY IN THE TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT. NICE TO SEE SOME GOOD WINS IN THE YOUNG SEASON FOR THE CATS, LETS HOPE COACH BUTTs CAN HAVE THE SAME KINDA SUCCESS IN THE REGULAR SEASON, SO GOOD LUCK, AND BEAR DOWN.

AND IN SOME WOMENS SOCCER NEWS, THE CATS DROPPED THEIR FINAL REGULAR SEASON MATCHUP AGAING THE OREGON STATE BEAVERS 3 TO 0. THE CATS SAID GOODBYE TO FIVE SENIORS ON THE TEAM. OVERALL, THIS SEASON WAS TOUGH FOR THE LADY CATS. THEY END THE SEASON AT 4-15-1 WITH A 1-8 RECORD IN CONFERENCE PLAY. BUT FOR SENIORS DEVON WHARF, SAMANTHA DREES, JASMINE NAMDAR, MACKE MUTZ, AND ANALISA MARQUEZ, THANK YOU FOU YOUR SERVICE TO ARIZONA SOCCER, AND GOOD LUCK, MOVING ON.

AS MANY OF YOU KNOW WE HAD HOMECOMING THIS PAST WEEKEND, AND IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, WE’VE HAD SOME EPIC FIGHT TO THE END FOOTBALL GAMES AGAINST SOME OF THE TOP TEAMS IN THE CONFERENCE AND THE COUNTRY, HOWEVER, THIS YEAR WAS NOT TO BE THE SAME, AND THANK GOD. THE CATS TOOK ON THE WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS, WHO MAY BE THE WORST BCS SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY. I THOUGHT THAT ARIZONA WOULD WIN THIS GAME EASILY, BUT NOT COVER THE SPEAD OF AN ASTOUNDING 32 POINTS, UNTIL ARIZONAS TRAVIS COBB RETURNED THE OPENING KICKOFF 95 YARDS FOR A TD, THEN I FEL A BIT DIFFERENT. ARIZONA WHALED ON THE COUGARS FOR 471 YARDS, 294 ON THE GROUND. WASHINGTON STATE? A BIT DIFFERENT, THEY MANAGED 185 YARDS 64 OF WHICH CAME AT THE END OF THE GAME. CATTS TOOK THIS ONE 48-7. NOT BAD PLAYING AS A NATIONALLY RANKED TEAM FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2000. THE CATS MOVE TO 17 IN THE BCS, 18 IN THE AP, AND 19 IN THE USA TODAY POLL. WITH THE WIN, AND THE OREGON LOSS (THANK GOD) THE CATS NOW FIND THEMSELVES A HALF GAME OUT OF FIRST, AND IN STAND ALONE SECOND IN THE PAC-10 (WHAT)?!? THEY ARE THE ONLY TEAM IN THE CONFERENCE THAT CONTROLS THEIR DESTINY TO THIS EXTENT. OVER THE NEXT 4 GAMES THE CATS MUST GO 3-1, THE ONLY CATCH IS THAT THEY HAVE TO BEAT OREGON AND SC, WHICH CAN BE DONE, BUT LETS TAKE IT ONE GAME AT A TIME. THE CATS HEAD TO BERKLEY THIS WEEKEND TO TAKE ON A JAVID BESTLESS CAL TEAM WHO IS OK AFTER THAT SCARY FALL THIS PAST WEEKEND, SO WE WISH HIM A SPEEDY RECOVERY. ILL BREAK DOWN THE KEYS TO VICTORY ON WEDNESDAY SO STAY TUNED.

BUT FOR NOW, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME CATS, THIS IS ALEX “THEY LAUGHED WHEN I SAID ROSE BOWL” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YA AT THE GAME.

My day on the job.

Over the course of this semester, I have learned many things that I know will be a great asset to my future career as a sports broadcaster. My time spent at KOLD 13 News has been nothing but fun and the best learning experience available to me. These past few weeks have taught me a lot about deadlines, how you can easily be thrown into a situation you may not be familiar with or comfortable with, but will have to adapt to in order to make sure the job gets done right. This past Friday we had to go to two footballs games like usual, but these games were on the complete opposite side of town from one another. We got to both with enough time to film and record one quarter from each, getting about three or four usable highlights from each one. On the way back, my boss told me that I was going to need to help him out by editing the film, recording the right plays to put on the reel, and then put it into that night’s script. Needless to say I was pretty nervous. Every time in the past that I had done any editing or script work, someone had been there to tell me if I was doing it wrong, and to show me how to do it better. We were behind schedule and it just needed to be done, so it was my job for that night. As soon as we got back to the studio, my boss ran to the office to type up his script and get dressed to go on air, as I slowly and shakily made my way back to the edit bay. I looked at the computer, looming at me, taunting me, and frankly, scaring me. I didn’t have much time to lament my future task however, as right when I was about to sit down, or electronic director ran in and told me he needed me to input all the scores for the games before the show was over. I looked back at him and just said done. I looked back and realized I needed to hustle to get everything done. It’s amazing that when you’re faced with some pressure, how you can rise to the occasion and surprise yourself. I just took it a step at a time, remembering how my boss would do it and managed to get all of our plays into the server, and the script. After that I had to run him the copies of the script, and one copy to out producer for the night, and then it was finally time to hustle up and get all the scores on the website. I remembered how to do it from past times and it seemed like everything was going fine, until the last score wasn’t on my paper. Someone had forgotten to log the score down, and the show was almost over. I didn’t know what to do and it was going to take to long to track down the person that was at the game, until I remembered that one of my friends had gone to the high school playing, so I called him and asked him for the score, which he had, and I got the game in with seconds to spare, (and likely saving the day). This was by far the most hectic week and perhaps most stressful of my semester here so far, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

HEY THERE CATS THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

I HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT HALLOWEEN WEEKEND, AND I CAN JUST START TO SEE THAT END OF SEMESTER HORIZON NOW, BUT TO DISTRACT YOU UNTIL THEN LETS SEE WHATS GOING ON IN SPORTS.

WELL THE ARIZONA WOMENS VOLLEYBALL TEAM GOT A MUCH NEEDED WIN THIS PAST WEEKEND AFTER FALLING TO THE NUMBER 5 RANKED HUSKIES TOOK OUT THE CATS 3-1. THE NUMBER 18 WILDCATS BOUNCED BACK AND TOOK DOWN THE 21 RANKED COUGARS OF WSU 3-1 IMPROVING THEIR RECORD TO 15-6 AND 5-6 IN PAC 10 PLAY AND KEEPING PACE IN A VERY TOUGH CONFERENCE. UP NEXT FOR THE LADY CATS IS A TRIP TO OREGON TO TAKE ON THE NUMBER 15 OREGON DUCKS AND THE OREGON STATE BEAVERS. WHEN BOTH TEAMS CAME TO TUCSON EARLEIR THIS YEAR, THE CATS SWEPT, SO GOOD LUCK GIRLS. MOVING ON.

WELL THE RED AND BLUE GAME WAS THIS PAST WEEKEND, AND IT WAS NOTHING BUT SMILES FOR CATS AFTER THE GAME. THE FIRST TRUE GLIMPSE INTO THE NEW ERA IF SEAN MILLER SHOWED GOOD DEFENSE AND A LOT OF BALL MOVEMENT. LAMONT JONES PUT IN A SOLID 21 POINTS OFF OF 6-11 SHOOTING WHILE JAMELLE HORNE ADDED 17 AND 9 REBOUNDS IN THE INTER SQAUD SCRIMMAGE. KRYL NATYAZKO HAD A GOOD AFTERNOON, WITH A DOUBLE DOUBLE OF HIS OWN, PUTTING IN 14 POINTS AND 10 BOARDS, WHILE OTHER FRESHMAN DERRICK WILLIAMS, SOLOMON HILL, AND KEVIN PARROM ALL ADDED 13 POINTS THEMSELVES. AND MR. FOGG ADDED 13 POINTS FOUR REBOUNDS AND FOUR ASSISTS. ALL IN ALL ID SAY IT WAS A DEFINATE WIN FOR ALL CATS FANS. WE LOOKED GOOD DEFENSIVELY AND IF WE CAN KEEP BALL MOVEMENT LIKE THAT, ITLL BE HARD TO RUN WITH US. THE NEXT TEST FOR THE CATS COMES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH A EXIBITION MATCH AGAINST AUGUSTANA COLLEGE AT 7 P.M. SO AKE SURE YOU GET YOUR ZONA ZOO TICKET TO SEE THE CATS IN ACTION.

IN OTHER SPORTS NEWS, THE ARIZONA MENS FOOTBALL TEAM CLIMBED UP ALL THREE POLLS THIS WEEK WITHOUT EVEN PLAYING. WISH IT WAS THAT EASY EVERY WEEK. THE CATS MOVED TO 21 IN THE AP, 19 IN THE COACHES, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY #18 IN THE BCS POLLS, NICE. THE CATS SQUARE OFF AGAINST THE WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS THIS WEEK, AND WE’LL HAVE MORE ANALYSIS ON THIS HOMECOMING MATCHUP THIS WEDNESDAY.

BUT FOR NOW, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME CATS, THIS IS ALEX “I CAN SMELL THE PASADENA ROSES NOW” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

POPELKA WOULD HAVE HAD A TWO STROKE LEAD IF IT WERE NOT FOR A PESKY DOUBLE BOGEY ON THE FINAL HOLE, BUT SHE IS STILL TIED ATOP THE LEADER BOARD FOR THE INDIVIDUAL SCORES. SHE DID HAVE AN EAGLE ON THE PAR 5 16TH EVEN IN THE TOUGH WIND CONDITIONS. THE CATS HOLD A ONE SHOT LEAD OVER PAC-10 FOE WASHINGTON DESPITE ADDING 10 SHOTS TO THEIR OWN SCORE. SO GOOD LUCK LADIES, MOVING ON…

WITH SEAN “THE PERSONAL SAVIOR” MILLER AT THE HELM, THE CATS LOOK TO RUN THE BALL UP THE FLOOR, AND ATTACK THE WHOLE CAME. THE GOOD NEWS FOR THE YOUNG CATS TEAM IS THAT THE PAC-10 IS VERY WEAK THIS YEAR AND THEY COULD EASILY MAKE SOME NOISE, THE BAD NEWS IS THAT THE REST OF THE COUNTRY KNOWS HOW WEAK OUR CONFERENCE IS TO. LOOK FOR THE TOURNAMENT TO SELECT THREE OR FOUR TEAMS, HOPEFULLY FOUR. AT THE TOP, WE SEE SOMETHING NEW. CAL AND WASHINGTON ARE THE TWO BEST TEAMS IN THE PAC, ANF LOOK FOR THEM TO BE DUKIENG IT OUT THE ENTIRE WAS FOR TOP SPOT. THE CATS AND BRUNINS OF UCLA FALL IN NEXT, AND THEN IT GETS INTERESTING. I SEE CRAIG ROBINSON’S OREGON STATE BEAVERS TAKING THE 5, THE USC TROJANS AT THE 6, THE STANFORD AT 7, ASU AT 8, OREGON AT 9, AND WASHINGTON STATE AT 10. TONY BENNET LEFT AND D NO ONE HAS EVER LIKE PULLMAN WASHINGTON. SO LOOK FOR THE HIGH POWERED AND YOUNG CATS TO MAKE THE TOURNAMENT AGAIN AND TIE NORTH CAROLINA TO EXTEND THE STREAK, WE’LL HAVE MORE AS THE SEASON PROGRESSES.

BUT FOR NOW, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME CATS, THIS IS ALEX “KOBE AND THE LAKERS QUEST FOR REPEATING STARTED OFF RIGHT YESTERDAY” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

Sports!

HEY THERE WILDCATS, THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

WELL WHAT A FUN WEEKEND FOR SPORTS IT WAS CATS, AND WE HAVE SOME VERY COOL STUFF COMING UP THIS WEEK, SO LETS SEE WHATS IN STORE.

WELL LETS START OFF WITH THE COOL NEWS, ARIZONA MAY FINALLY BE COMING BACK INTO THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT. AS MOST OF YOU KNOW WE HAD A FOOTBALL GAME THIS PAST SATURDAY AGAINST THE BRUINS OF UCLA. THIS WAS JUST A PRETTY BAD GAME ALL AROUND. ARIZONA HAD 5 TURNOVERS, 5. THAT KIND OF SLOPPY PLAY AGAINST VIRTUALLY ANY TEAM IN THE PAC-10 CAN ALMOST GUARNTEE A LOSS. THANK GOD WE WERE PLAYING ONE OF THE TWO EXCEPTIONS. NOW MY PARENTS WERE IN TOWN THIS WEEKEND FOR THE GAME, WHICH WAS NICE. I CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON MY FOLKS FOR A FEW THINGS, A GREAT WEEKEND WITH FAMILY, MONEY, AND A GOOD FOOTBALL GAME, OR IF NOT, A NICE DINNER AFTERWORDS. SO AFTER THE “SPECIAL” FOOTBALL GAME HAD ENDED, WE WENT TO DINNER WHERE I RAN INTO UATV’S BIGGEST FAN, BREEAN. AND I KNEW IT WOULD MAKE HER DAY IF WE COULD GIVE HER A SHOUT OUT, SO THANK YOU BREEAN FOR BEING A LOYAL UATV VIWER, AND YES, GULLMANS HAIR IS REAL. MOVING ON. LIKE I SAID, THE GAME WAS AWFUL, BUT JUST A LITTLE WORSE FOR THE BRUINS. IT WAS DEFENSE THAT ONE THIS GAME FOR AZ, HOLDING UCLA TO JUST 65 YARDS ON THE GROUND. SO WITH THE WIN, THE CATS CLAW THEIR WAY TO 5-2 AND 3-1 IN PAC-10 PLAY. OH YA, AND THE RANKINGS CAME OUT TODAY..AND IT WAS NOTHING BUT GOOD NEWS FOR AZ. WE HAVE MOVED TO 20 IN THE BCS, BUT THE BETTER NEWS IS THAT WE ARE FINALLY RANKED IN THE OTHER 2 POLLS FALLLING IN AT #23 IN THE AP TOP 25 AND #24 IN THE COACHES POLL. RANKED IN THE AP FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 9 YEARS, NOT TO SHABBY. WE GOT A BYE WEEK THIS WEEKEND AND THEN FACE THE WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS NEXT WEEK. NOW, I KNOW YOU SHOULD NEVER SLEEP ON A TEAM, BUT I THINK I MAY BE TAKING A NAP ON THIS ONE, MORE ANALYSIS NEXT WEEK. MOVING ON…

IN WOMENS VOLLEYBALL NEWS, ARIZONA SAW A TOUGH TIME IN THE BAY, FALLING TO THE NUMBER 15 GOLDEN BEARS 3-1 AND THEN FELL AGAIN TO THEBNUMBER 6 CARDINAL OF STANFORD 3-0. OUCH. THE NUMBER 16 CATS CLOSED OUT THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON AT AN IMPRESSIVE 15-5 AND 4-5 IN CONFERENCE PLAY. THEY GET RIGHT BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS THIS COMING WEEKEND AS THEY PLAY HOST TO WASHINGTON STATE AND THE NUMBER 4 RANKED HUSKIES OF WASHINGTON THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, SO GET OUT THERE AND SHOW SOME WILDCAT PRIDE, AND REMEMBER BEAR DOWN.

AND NOW CATS, ITS FINALLY HERE! BASKETBALL!!! AND IT COULDN’T COME AT A BETTER TIME, WITH A BLOOMING FOOTBALL PROGRAM, A SOLID OPENING FOR OUR BASKETBALL PROGRAM IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS SCHOOL NEEDS. THIS SUNDAY BRINGS THE ARIZONA ANNUAL RED/BLUE GAME. THE INTER-SQUAD SCRIMMAGE WILL TIP-OFF AT 1 P.M. TICKETS ARE 6 DOLLARS FOR ADULTS AND 3 FOR KIDSON WEDNESDAY ILL GIVE A QUICK BREAKDOWN OF THE UPCOMING PAC 10 SEASON, AND SHOW YOU WHERE THE WILDCATS ARE GONNA BE THIS YEAR.

BUT FOR NOW, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME CATS, THIS IS ALEX “ZENDEJAS START MAKING YOU EXTRA POINTS OR IM TAKING YOUR JOB” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YA AT THE GAME.

WELL WE GOT SOME COOLE THINGS IN SPORTS THIS WEEK, SO LETS SEE WHATS AHEAD.

THE NUMBER 16 ARIZONA WOMENS VOLLEYBALLS TEAM HEADS UP TO NORTHERN CALIFRONIA THIS WEEKEND TO TAKE ON CAL AND STANFORD. THE CATS TAKE ON THE NUMBER 15 RANKED GOLDEN BEARS THIS FRIDAY EVENING. AND IF YOU DIDN’T THINK IT COULD GET ANY HARDER, WHY DON’T WE HAVE THE CATS PLAY THE NUMBER 6 RANKED CARDINAL ON SATURDAY MORNING. AWESOME. THE CATS ARE CURRENTLY 15-3 AND 4-3 IN CONFERENCE PLAY THIS YEAR. NEXT WEEK THE CATS HOST WASHINGTON STATE AND THE NUMBER 4 RANKED WASHINGTON HUSKIES SO GOOD LUCK AND BEAR DOWN. MOVING ON…

IN SOME MENS GOLF NEWS, ARIZONA WILL HOST THE 31ST ANNUAL WILDCAT GOLF INVITATIONAL ON FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20 AT TUCSON COUNTRY CLUB. THIS INVITATIONAL IS A GREAT FUNDRAISER FOR ARIZONA GOLF AND SOME SPECIAL GUESTS THIS YEAR IUNCLUDE JIM FURYK, TED PURDY, DAVID BERGANIO AND RICKY BARNES. SO ITS GONNA BE A LOT OF FUN, HEY YOU WANNA PLAY? WELL YA CAN. ENTIRES ARE ONLY 550 BIG ONES…REALLY? OH BUT THAT DOES INCLUDE GREENS FEES, CART RENTAL, RANGE BALLS, A TOURNAMENT DINNER, AND ON COURSE FOOD AND REFRESHMENTS OF COURSE. TOTALLY WORTH IT…(SIGH) WHAT WE DO FOR CELEBRITIES. FOR MORE INFO CONTACT RICK “I’M SO HALL OF FAME” LAROSE AT (52O) 621-4658. ILL BE SAVING UP..

AND FINALLY, WE GOT OURSELVES A FOOTBALL GAME THIS WEEKEND CATS. WHAT MAKES THIS ONE SPECIAL IS THAT WE ARE A RANKED BCS TEAM! YAY! SO WE GET TO FACE THE BABY BRUINS OF UCLA, AND EVEN THOW THEY HAVE A GREAT COACH AND A BETTER OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR…HMMMM NOT TO SCARED. THE BRINS COME INTO THIS GAME 3-3 OVERALL AND 0-3 IN PAC 10 PLAY..OHH. AND WITH NICK “MONEY” FOLES, AND GREG “KOBE” NWOKO LEADING THE WAY WITH A LITTLE GRIGSBY TURNER DEAN AND ROBERTS MIXED IN THERE I LIKE OUR CHANCES. OH YA LETS NOT FORGET ABOUT THAT STELLAR DEFENSE, THAT WOULD BE EVEN MORE STELLAR IF WE COULD STOP A RUNNER (STOOPS! PRACTICE THAT FOR CAL!!!) SO LOOK OUT FOR WADE AND NELSON TO MIX IT UP WITH A LITTLE ROSS AND GOLDEN TO. CATS 35 BRUINS 10.

BUT FOR NOW CATS I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “COLLEGE BASKETBALL COMING AT YA SOON!” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

NYMYER JOINS FORMER UA SWIMMERS TANYA HUGHES AND WHITNEY MYERS WHO BOTH WON THE AWARD PREVIOUSLY IN 1994 AND 2007, RESPECTIVLEY. SHE ALSO WON A GOLD AT THE FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE 800 METER FREESTYLE. NYMYER IS A 2 TIME PAC-10 SWIMMER OF THE YEAR AND A 26 TIME ALL AMERICAN. SO CONGRATS LACEY, MOVING ON…

HEY CATS, THERE WAS A FOOTBALL GAME THIS PAST WEEKEND IN ARIZONA STADIUM AGAINST THOSE PESKY STANFORD CARDINAL. AND THIS ANCHOR WAS ABOUT TO CRY AFTER WE GAVE UP ANOTHER 70,000 YARDS OF OFFENSE, BUT LUCKILY FOR US STANFOR GAVE UP 70,000 (AND 1). YES CATS IN ANOTHER COME FROM BEHIND VICTORY THE CATS BROKE THE CURSE OF THE CARDINAL AND PREVAILED 43-38 SATURDAY. NICK FOLES AGAIN WAS JUST RIDICULOUS, PUTTING THE TEAM ON HIS SHOULDERS YET AGAIN AND GOING 40-51 FOR 416 PASSING YARDS AND THREE TD’S, AND ITS ONLY THE THIRD START OF HIS CAREER. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THIS WEEK IS THAT FOLES IS FINALLY GETTING SOME RECOGNITION FOR HIS STELLAR EFFORTS. FOLES WAS NOMINATED AS ONE OF THE FOUR PLAYERS FOR THE AT&T ALL-AMERICA PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD. TEXT VOTE TO 345345 UNTIL 1159 PM EASTERN TIME (THAT’S 959 FOR ALL YOU NON MATH STUDENTS) ON WEDNESDAY TO GET YOUR VOTE IN, TRUST ME IVE BEEN VOTING LIKE CRAZY. EAC VOTE GETS YOU A CHANCE TO WIN A TRIP TO THE BCS CHAMPIIONSHIP SERIES IN PASADEA, LETS HOPE THE WHOLE FOOTBALL TEAM IS VOTING AND MAYBE WE CAN PLAY THERE TO. LETS SHOW AMERICA HOW ARIZONA PLAYS FOOTBALL. IN THE FOURTH QUARTER OF THIS GAME, FOLES WAS 8 FOR 8 AND BROUGHT HIS SEASON COMPLETION PERCENTAGE TO 73.9 PERCENT, THAT’S GOOD ENOUGH TO LEAD ALL FOOTBALL BOWL SUBDIVISION QB’S. NICE. BIG UPS TO MR. NICK GRIGSBY, WHO HAD A VERY IMPRESSIVE RUN EVEN WITH THE FLU TO GIVE UA THE GO AHEAD TD, SO THANKS FOR THE BAILOUT NICK, I OWE YA ONE. THIS WEEK THE CATS SEE UCLA, AND THE BUDISH PARENTS COME TO TOWN, SO BRING YOUR GAME FACE TO ARIZONA STADIUM THIS SATURDAY AT 3:30, AND SHOW THE BABY BRUINS HOW TO BEAR DOWN.

AND FINALLY CATS THERE WAS A JOYUS OCCASION IN MY LIFE THIS WEEKEND, I ACTUALLY FOUND OUT THAT WE HAD A LIBRARY AT THIS SCHOOL, ONLY TOOK THREE YEARS. KIDDING OF COURSE, IT ONLY TOOK ONE, BUT NO CATS THE FIRST BCS POLLS CAME OUT THIS WEEK, AND I COULDN’T HAVE BEEN MORE SHOCKED. FIIRST OFF, IOWA IS SIXTH IN THE BCS POLLS, WHAT? WHEN HAS IOWA EVER BEEN GOOD AT ANYTHING? USC IS 7 OREGON 11, AND THERE WAS JUST ONE MORE PAC-10 TEAM IN THERE. THAT RIGHT YOU GOT IT, THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA CHECKS IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT AT NUMBER 22. THANK YOU LORD. WITH TWO OF OUR EASIER (SORRY DAD) GAMES COMING UP OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, I GOTTA LIKE OUR CHANCES TO MOVE UP THIS PRESTIGUOES LIST. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS YAY.

WELL CATS, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “22 IS BETTER THAN 23, 24, 25 AND THE REST OF THE DIVISION ONE” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

BUT IN YOUR FREE TIME WHY DON’T YOU CHECK OUT THE FOOTBALL GAME. THIS SATURDAY THE CATS TAKE ON THE STANFORD CARDINAL AT 4:30 IN ARIZONA STADIUM. NOW FOR THOSE OF YOU DON’T KNOW, LAST YEAR THE WILDCATS TOOL A TRIP UP TO PALO ALTO AND GAVE UP LIKE 70000 YARDS ON THE ROAD AND CAME BACK TO TUCSON WITH A LOSS, OH AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT FOR PARENTS WEEKEND WE LOST TO THE CARDINAL AGAIN.SO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, THIRD TIMES THE CHARM, BUT I LIKE TO SAY, STOP PLAYING THEM PARENTS WEEKEND. BOTH TEAMS COMING OFF HARD LOSSES, WITH OSU BLOWING OUT STANFORD, AND THE WILDCATS…WELL WE WONT EVEN TALK ABOUT THAT. BUT THIS IS A STATEMENT GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS, AND I THINK THE WILDCATS ARE READY TO SHOW UP AGAIN. THE TEAM PLAYED WELL LAST WEEK AND AS LONG AS THERE ISNT A FOURTH QUARTER COLLAPSE, SHOULD BE ABLE TO PULL OUT A WIN. CATS 27- CARDINAL 21.

THE NUMBER 18 RANKED ARIZONA WOMENS VOLLEYBALL TEAM HEADS UP NORTH TO VISIT OUR FAVORITE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, ARIZONA STATE THIS FRIDAY AT 7 P.M. IN TEMPE. THE CATS ARE 14-3 AND 3-3 IN THE PAC 10 COMING OFF A SOLID WEEKEND SWEEP OF THE OREGON SCHOOL AT HOME, AFTER THIS THE LADY CATS STAY ON THE ROAD AND HEAD UP TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA TO TAKE ON CAL ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 23 AND STANFORD ON SUNDAY OCTOER 25. SO GOOD LUCK LADIES AND BEAR DOWN.

IN GOLF NEWS, THE ARIZONA MENS GOLF TEAM COACH, RICK LAROSE WILL BE INDUCTED TO THE ARIZONA GOLF HALL OF FAME ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 23 LAROSE IS IN HIS 36 YEAR AS A HEAD COACH AND HIS 32 AS THE MENS COACH. HE IS THE ONLY COLLEGIATE COACH TO WIN TITLES IN BOTH MENS AND WOMENS GOLF. HE WAS INDUCTED IN THE GOLF COACHES ASSOCIATION AMERICA HALL OF FAME IN 2003. IMPRESSIVE. UNDER HIS DIRECTION ARIZONA HAS WON THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, 77 ALL-AMERICANS, 113 ALL PAC-10 CONFERENCE PLAYERS, TWO US AMATUER CHAMPIONS, SIX UNITED STATES WALKER CUP PLAYERS, NINE PAC-10 CHAMPIONS, EIGHT NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, AND 42 REPRESENTATIVES FOR DIFFERENT COUNRTRUES AROUND THE WORLD.SOOOO I THINK HES QUALIFIED, SO CONGRATS MR. Sports!

HEY THERE WILDCATS, THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

I HOPE YOUR WEEKEND WAS GOOD, LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENED IN YOUR SPORTS WORLD.

WELL CATS, THE WOMEN OF U OF A SAW SOME GOOD FORTUNE OVER THE WEEKEND, WHILE SOME OF THE GUYS WERE SINGING THE BLUES.

OVER THE WEEKEND THE NUMBER 22 RANKED ARIZONA WOMENS VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOSTED OREGON AND OREGON STATE IN MCKALE CENTER. THE CATS DISMISSED THE BEAVERS OF OSU ON FRIDAY IN FIVE SETS 3-2. TIFFANY OWENS LEAD THE WAY WITH AN IMPRESSIVE 18 KILLS AND 23 DIGS. BUT THE GOOD NEWS FOR VOLLEYBALL DIDN’T STOP THERE. ON SATURDAY, THE CATS TOOK DOWN THE NUMBER 11 RANKED DUCKS 3 SETS TO 1. BUT WITH THIS WIN, EVERYONW WANTED TO BE THE STAR OF THE SHOW. OWENS, DOTSY, KARST, NORTON, AND SNOW ALL HAD DOUBLE DIGIT KILLS. NICE. WITH THE WIN, THE CATS EVEN UP THEIR PAC 10 RECORD AT 3 AND 3 AND MOVE TO 14-3 OVERALL. UP NEXT FOR THE LADY CATS IS A TRIP UP NORTH TO VISIT OUR FAVORITE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, ARIZONA STATE. MOVING ON…

THE ARIZONA WOMENS SOFTBALL SAW SOME GOOD FORTUNE AS WELL THIS WEEKEND, AS THEY PICKED UP TWO SOLID WINS IN FALL BALL. KENZIE FOWLER PITCHED A COMPLETE GAME ONE HIT SHUTOUT  AGAINST NEW MEXICO AS THE LADY CATS TOOK GAME ONE OF THE DOUBLEHADER 5-0. IN GAME TWO, THE CATS BLASTED FIVE HOME RUNS AND LAUNCHED 14 HITS AS THEY TOOK OUT CENTRAL ARIZONA 10-1 IN SIX INNINGS DUE TO THE MERCEY RULE. NICE JOB GIRLS

WELL THERE WAS SOME BAD NEWS THIS WEEKEND. FOOTBALL. I MEAN COME ON. HOW MUCH TO WE HAVE TO ENDURE BEFORE WE CAN GET A SOLID ROAD WIN, AND NOT CHOKE? (FORGETTING OREGON STATE). THE CATS HAD IT, THEN THEY DIDN’T, THEN THEY DID, THEN…WELL YOU KNOW THE STORY. ARIZONA COMPLETLEY OUTPLAYED THE HUSKIES ALL GAME, UNTIL THE END. THE CATS WENT INTO THE HALF DOWN 14-10, AND CAME OUT IN THE THIRD TO OUTSCORE UDUB 17-7 TO GRAB A 27-21 LEAD. WITH UNDER THREE MINUTES YOURE UP BY 5,RUN THE BALL! STOP TRYING TO DO A SMALL BUBBLE SCREEN THAT GOES OFF THE FOOT OF DELASHAUN DEAN AND RIGHT INTO THE HANDS OF SOME UNDERSERVING PLAYER WHO RUNS IT 40 YARDS BACK FOR THE GO AHEAD TOUCHDOWN. ITS SO FRUSTRATING TO SEE A TEAM WHO DESERVES TO WIN LOSE BECAUSE OF MISSCALLS. FOLES PLAYED LIKE A VETERAN AGAIN, NOT A GOOD TIME TO THROW YOUR FIRST PICK OF THE YEAR, BUT IT WASN’T REALLY YOUR FAULT, O LINE WAS THE MVP ALLOWING HIM TO HAVE A BUNCH OF TIME TO GET RID OF THE BALL, BUT THE DEFENSE NEEDS TO GET TO WORK. HOW MANY MISSED TACKLES DO YOU NEED BEFORE YOU REALIZE SOMETHINGS WRONG? SO INSTEAD OF BEING 4-1 AND 2-0 IN PAC-10 PLAY, YOURE NOW 3-2 AND 1-1. TIME TO GET TO WORK. WE GOT STANFORD THIS WEEKEND FOR PARENTS WEEKEND, AND WE’VE ALL SEE HOW THE LAST TWO YEARS HAVE GONE AGAINST THE CARIDNAL. DON’T WORRY COACH STOOPS TUNE IN WEDNESDAY AND ILL GIVE YOU THE KEYS TO THE VICTORY.

WELL CATS I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “DODGERS ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE WORLD SERIES” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

Wildcat Sports

HEY THERE WILDCATS THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

WELL I HOPE YOURE READY FOR SOME COLLEGE FOOTBALL BECAUSE THE U OF A IS BACK, SO LETS GET RIGHT TO IT AND CHECK IT OUT.

WELL LIKE I JUST SAID THE U OF A IS BACK IN FOOTBALL FORM AS THEY HEAD TO SEATTLE TO TAKE ON THE WASHINGTON HUSKIES. ITS NO SURPRISE TO THIS ANCHOR THAT THE HUSKIES ARE CONFIDENT FOR THIS ONE. LOSING SOME HEARTBREAKERS OVER THE COURSE OF THIS SEASON TO SOME VERY GOOD TEAMS, AND THEY BEAT USC! THE WILDCATS HAVE REASON TO FEEL CONFIDENT TO HOWEVER, THEY COME IN BOASTING A 3-1 RECORD AND AN UNDERFEATED PAC 10 RECORD (EVEN IF IT IS ONLY ONE GAME). THE BIGGEST KEY TO THIS GAME IS SHUT DOWN LOCKER, DUDES CRAZY. EASILY A TOP 10 QB PICK IN THE DRAFT NEXT YEAR, HE SINGLE HANDEDLY CARRIES THE TEAM. SHUT HIM DOWN AND YOUR DEFENSE WILL FLOURISH. YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE HUSKIES RUN, AND FOR U OF A, THAT SHOULDN’T BE TO HARD. OUR CORNERS HAVE BEEN AWESOME THIS SEASON SO FAR, WITH CAM NELSON, GOLDEN TATE, AND DEVON ROSS PLAYING IMPECABLE DEFENSE, AND OH YA HOW ABOUT MR. TREVIN WADE? 4 PICKS IN FOUR GAMES..GROSS. ARIZONA HAS HAD SOME TROUBLE STOPPING THE RUN THIS SEASON AS WE’VE SEEN WITH IOWA AND THE RODGERS BROTHERS OF OREGON STATE, BUT IF WE STACK THE BOX WE SHOULD BE ALRIGHT. ON THE OFFENSIVE SIDE, ITS NOT TO BIG OF A QUESTION. NICK FOLES IS OUR LEADER. LET HIM LEAD. HE NEEDS TO DROP AT LEAT 30 PASSES COME SATURDAY, AND OUR RECIEVERS NEED TO BE ON TOP OF THEIR GAME, WE’VE DROPPED WAY TO MANY EASY BALLS THIS SEASON. IF GIRGSBY IS HEALTHY AND READY TO RUN, SHOVE HIM IN THERE AND LET HIM DO HIS THING, BUT IF NOT, MIX IT UP BETWEEN ANTOLIN AND NWOKU AND REALLY HAVE THE D-LINE GUESSING. BUT IT ALL SOUNDS SO EASY COMING OUT OF THIS ANCHORS MOUTH, WHY CANT IT JUST BE THAT WAY ON THE FIELD? BUT IF THEY DO WHAT I SAY (AND I KNOW THEY WILL, STOOPS IS SUCH A LOYAL UATV WATCHER), CATS COME BACK TO AZ WITH A WIN 24-17.

FINALLY, I WANTED TO TOUCH UPON SOMETHING THAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A LONG TIME. YOU SEE THE GOOD FOLKS AT ESPN HAVE WRITTEN SOMETHING THAT I LIKE TO CONSIDER MY PERSONAL BIBLE. THEY HAVE PUBLISHED THE ESPN COLLEGE BASKETBALL ENCYCLOPEDIA. YAY. ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT IS CREATES HUGE CONTROVERSY TO WHOEVER READS IT. THE BOOK WAS WRITTEN BY SOME OF THE GREATEST MINDS IN THE GAME, SO I DON’T KNOW HOW A BUNCH OF SMART PEOPLE COULD SCREW IT UP SO BAD. FOR EXAMPLE, ONE OF THE RANKINGS THIS WONDERFUL BOOK DOES IS RANK THE BEST PROGRAMS OF ALL TIME, ELECTRONICALLY. MISTAKE ONE. A COMPUTER CANNONT READ THE EMOTION, BLOOD, SWEAT, TEARS AND SACRIFICE THAT A TEAM PUTS INTO GRUELING SEASON AFTER GRUELING SEASON TO MAKE IT TO MARCH. NUMBER TWO. ONCE YOU GET PAST THE ELECTRONICS, IT DOESN’T EVEN ADD POINTS FOR FINAL FOUR TRIPS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS. WHAT!?!?! WHO DOES THAT? EVERY TEAM KILLS TO MAKE IT TO THE FINAL FOUR AND WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP (OBVIOUSLY), SO HOW DOES THAT NOT FACTOR IN?.

AND 3. THEY RANKED THE WHOLE THINK WRONG. THE NUMBER ONE TEAM ACCORDING TO THE EDITIORS AND THE STUPID COMPUTER IS THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. EW. UCLA IS CLEARLY THE BEST PROGRAM OF ALL TIME WITHOUT QUESTION, WITH 18 FINAL FOURS AND OH I DUNNO 11 CHAMPIONSHIPS, SO SWEET UK, ENJOY YOUR 7 TITLES AND TOP BILLING IN THIS BOOK, THOSE OF US WHO KNOW THE GAME AND ARENT DUMB KNOW WHOS REALLY ON TOP. BUT LETS NOT FORGET ABOUT THE GOOD OL’ U OF A. WE CHECK IN AT AN IMPRESSIVE 49, NOT BAD FOR A SCHOOL WITH ONLY ONE TITLE. OVERALL THE PAC-10 HAD 8 TEAMS IN THE TOP 50 OF ALL TIME, WITH ONLY (SURPRISE) ASU AND WASHINGTON STATE NOT MAKING IT IN. BUT THEY’RE IN THE TOP 100. SO THAT’S ONE THING ILL AGREE ON. SO THERE ACC, THIS PROVES ONCE AND FOR ALL THAT THE PAC-10 IS THE BEST (IVE BEEN SAYING IT ALL ALONG) ILL WRITE MY OWN BOOK, AND ITLL BE BETTER SO DON’T WORRY THAT’S COMING SOON.

Ready To Lead?

Even though there is a strong representation in the sports world today, the commonplace, “African Americans can never lead a football team to a Super Bowl victory,” is still widely believed in the sports world today. The commonplace comes to be by having both positions, the quarterback and the head coaching positions, be completely dominated by Caucasians. With African Americans being in the position to do great things in the prime of the sport of football, and generally falling short, they lost the ability to try again. Even though times have changed in the sport, and the two positions are being shared more frequently, the stereotype still remains the same, and African Americans are continually looked down upon.

It is still amazing to see this commonplace among some anchors and fans in the sport today. As on Sunday, October 5, 2009, there have been 11 black quarterbacks that have won a Super Bowl, three winning multiple rings, and one being the starter for the team. Two others, Donovan Mcnabb and Steve McNair both started the game for their teams but did not win. And very recently, in 2007, two good friends, Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy and Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith, two black head coaches met in the big game itself. It was the first time a African American head coach made the Super Bowl, let alone two in the same year. The Colts would go on to win the game 29-17 making Dungy the first black coach to win a Super Bowl. With all of these great accomplishments made by black athletes in our time, it is still hard for a young African American college QB to come out into the draft and stay with a team. Today in the National Football League, there are currently 17 black quarterbacks, and six black head coaches. They all are successful, hard working football personnel like the rest of the league, but still continue to be judged before they step foot out onto the field.

A commonplace isn’t true, just widely believed. There is no basis to judge a player performance on the color of his skin, just like we wouldn’t do with anything else. In the NFL, players and coaches screw up because they make the wrong decisions in the game. At that point, it makes no different if you’re black or white, it just means you screwed up. People put stock into the race of the coach or player because there hasn’t been that many African Americans at those positions, because no one would give them a chance. But there are plenty of black running backs, receivers, and linemen, and no one cares about their skin color. That’s because those aren’t leadership positions, and that is the most absurd thing of all. When you judge the leadership potential of a great player because of their skin color, and not the talent they possess, you become no better than those racists everywhere else in the world.

Unfortunately, I do not speak for the rest of the world, and with every black quarterback released from their team, and every black coach fired, the commonplace grows and grows. Until every African American in the position to lead a team to victory does so, no one will believe it possible, no matter how many facts you throw in their face. This commonplace really down intertwine with some other commonplaces in the world today. As previously stated, when a black athlete is released from their team, it falls into the category that African Americans cannot be successful, which is also ridiculous.

This commonplace came about just shortly after African Americans were allowed to start playing in the NFL. Because of bigots like Preston Marshall, blacks were kicked out of the league until the mid-40’s. When they were allowed back in, they really contributed to the game tremendously. The first modern QB however, was Marlin Briscoe, who played for the AFL Denver Broncos. Even more than forty years past his rookie season, Briscoe still holds many of the rookie records for the Broncos. There are countless records broken by both African American QB’s and coaches, and yet they still are looked down upon and are regarded as “second string commodities”.

I love sports. Everything about them makes me happy. Not a day goes by that I don’t watch a sport or sports highlight show. I want to be a professional sports broadcaster, and have been around sports all my life. They are really the only thing I know inside and out. I have been raised to be respectful to everyone I meet, and to never, under any circumstances, judge anyone by the color of their skin, sexual preference, or religion, and that is something that I hold very true to me today. When I make it to the top of the broadcasting world, my first goal is to change all the negative commonplaces and stereotypes. It shouldn’t  matter what you look like, who you choose to love, or choose to worship in sports, all that should matter is the effort you put into the game, and how much you change the sport. The commonplace that African Americans cannot lead a team to victory is absurd, almost as absurd as saying we would never have a black president. Maybe if we all just give everyone a chance, you never know what we may find.

HEY THERE CATS THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

WELL LET ME WISH EVERYONE A QUICK HAPPY YOM KIPPUR, YOU SHOULD BE IN TEMPLE. JUST MAKE SURE YOU GO AFTER DAILY DOSE.

I HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT WEEKEND FULL OF SPORTS, I KNOW I DID, SO LETS RECAP SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS.

WELL IT WAS AN INTERESTING WEEKEND FOR THE ARIZONA WOMENS VOLLEYBALL TEAM. AFTER DISPATCHING OF THE NUMBER 13 RANKED USC TROJANS ON FRIDAY THREE SETS TO ONE, THE LADY CATS CAME INTO SATURDAYS MATCHUP AGAINST THE NUMBER 14 RANKED UCLA BRUINS WITH A LOT OF CONFIDENCE. UNFORTUNATLEY FOR THE CATS, THAT CONFIDENCE WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND INSIDE MCKALE AT 7 PM SATURDAY. AFTER THE CATS SURGED TO A 16-9 LEAD IN THE FIRST SET, THE BRUINS MADE A GREAT COMEBACK TO MAKE IT A 16-15 GAME, ARIZONA WOULD EVENTUALLY GO ON TO WIN THE FIRST SET, BUT UCLA’S CONFIDENCE HAD BEEN RESTORED. THE BRUINS WENT ON TO WIN THE NEXT THREE SETS WITH RELATIVE EASE, TO GIVE ARIZONA THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON. THE CATS GO TO 1-1 IN CONFERENCE PLAY, AND GET TO TRAVEL UP TO WASHINGTON, AND WASHINGTON STATE THIS WEEKEND SO GOOD LUCK LADIES, AND BEAR DOWN.

NOW THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE THAT HAPPENED THIS WEEKEND…HMMM WHAT COULD IT HAVE BEEN? OH YA! THE PAC TEN OPENER FOR ARIZONA FOOTBALL. AND WE GOT THE PLEASURE OF OPENING UP AGAINST THE OREGON STATE BEAVERS IN BEATIFUL CORVALIS OREGON. IF YOU DON’T REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR, WELL LETS JUST SAY IT WAS THE STORY OF THE WILDCATS SEASON. I MEAN, THEY MISSED THE EXTRA POINT, WHO DOES THAT, BUT THEY STILL MANAGED TO PULL OUT THE WIN OVER THE CATS 19-17, SO ARIZONA WAS LOOKING FOR REVENGE. NICK FOLES GOT THE NOD TO START OVER MATT SCOTT THIS PAST WEEKEND, (THANKS FOR LISTENING COACH) AND HE DID NOT DISSAPOINT. THE YOUNG MAN WENT 25-34 FOR 254 YARDS AND THREE TD’S. NICE! THIS WASN’T A GAME THAT CAME EASY, BROOKS REED WAS DOWN FOR THE GAME, NIC GRIGSBY GOT HURT ON THE FIRST PLAY FROM SCCRIMAGE, ANTOLIN WENT DOWN A BIT AFTER, GREG NWOKO WAS LIMPING, AS WAS CRIER AND TURNER. I MEAN I WAS ABOUT TO GET THE NOD TO GO IN AND PLAY, BUT THANKS TO GREAT PLAY CALLING BY THE COACHES, AND THE COOLNESS UNDER PRESSURE FROM FOLES, THE TEAM WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT A SOLID OPENING CONFERENCE WIN OVER OSU 37-32. ALSO, DEVIN ROSS HAD A BIG INTERCEPTION TO REALLY HELP SEAL THE GAME, AND I KNOW HES HAPPY ABOUT THAT REDEMPTION PLAY SO GOOD FOR HIM, AND MR. TREVIN WADE, YET ANOTHER PICK. THAT MAKES FOUR PICKS IN FOUR GAMES, PLEASE STOP IT, YOURE HURTING ME WITH YOUR AWESOMENESS. THE CATS GET A MUCH NEEDED WEEK OFF, AND THEN TAKE THEIR 3-1 RECORD INTO UDUB, TO TAKE ON THE HUSKIES OF WASHINGTON. WE’LL HAVE SOME MORE ANALYSIS ON THAT GAME COME WEDNESDAY.

BUT FOR NOW CATS, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “ROSE BOWL DREAMS STILL ALIVE” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN, AND ILL SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

YAY MORE SPORTS!

HEY THERE WILDCATS THIS IS ALEX BUDISH BRINGING YOU ALL THAT’S U OF A SPORTS.

WELL CATS, ITS GETTING TO THAT BEAUTIFUL TIME OF THE WEEK AGAIN, FOOTBALL TIME, AND THIS SATURDAY COULD BRING SOME MIXED REVIEWS FOR THE U OF A, BUT FIRST LETS SEE WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING AROUND CAMPUS.

LETS TALK WOMENS VOLLEYBALL. THE PAC-10 IS PRETTY GOOD IN THIS FIELD, BUT I BET YA DIDN’T KNOW THEY WERE THIS GOOD. 7 OF THE 10 TEAMS IN THE CONFERENCE ARE RANKED IN THE TOP 25 FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK. WASHINGTON FINDS THEMSELVES RANKED THIRD IN THE COUNTRY, OREGON SEVENTH, STANFORD 10, CAL 12, USC 13, UCLA 14, AND GOOD OL’ ARIZONA 19. AND LETS NOT FORGET TO MENTION THAT OREGON STATE AND WASHINGTON STATE ARE KNOCKING ON THE RANKINGS DOOR FOR TOP 25 WITH A HIGH AMOUNT OF RECIVING VOTES. SO THAT’S 9 OUT OF 10 TEAMS THAT DOMINATE..BUT WHO DID WE LEAVE OUT?....HMMMM WHO COULD IT BE? OHHH YA! ARIZONA STATE, THAT AWESOME COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO THE NORTH. ONCE AGAIN FALLING BEHIND IN A CONFERENCE OF CHAMPIONS, I THINK THE MOUNTAIN WEST MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR A NEW SCHOOL, YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT. AS THE CATS GEAR UP FOR THEIR OPENING CONFERENCE WEEKEND THEY FIND THEMSELVES HOSTING THE NUMBER 13 AND 14 USC TROJANS AND UCLA BRUINS. THE CATS AT A PERFECT 11-0 LOOK TO EXTEND THEIR PERFECT RECORD THIS WEEKEND, WITH THE USC GAME COMING THIS FRIDAY AT 7 PM IN MCKALE AND THE UCLA GAME SATURDAY AT 7 IN THE SAME PLACE, SO GET OUT THERE AND BEAR DOWN. MOVING ON….

WELL WE DON’T NEED TO RECAP LAST SATURDAYS…WELL I GUESS YOU COULD CALL IT A GAME. ITS TIME TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS COMING WEEKEND AND OUR CONFERENCE OPENER AGAINST THE OREGON STATE BEAVERS. THE CATS HEAD UP TO CORVALLIS TO TAKE ON A HIGH POWERED OFFENSE AND A PRETTY GOOD DEFENSE TO BOOT. THE DEFENSIVE PLAN FOR THE CATS IS SIMPLE. PLUG UP THE MIDDLE. THE CATS TAKE IN MY OPINION THE SECOND BEST RUNNING BACK IN THE CONFERENCE AND PROBABLY ALSO ONE OF THE BETTER BACKS IN THE COUNTRY, JAQUIZZ RODGERS. TO SUM IT UP, HES REALLY GOOD.  HES GOT GREAT AGILITY AND CAN CUT BACK BETTER THAN MOST, SO THE CATS NEED TO STACK THE BOX, AND REALLY MAKE THE PASSING GAME BEAT THEM, AND WITH CORNERS LIKE TREVIN WADE AND CAM NELSON, ITS GONNA BE HARD TO DO. IF THE CATS CAN CONTROL THE RUN GAME, WHICH THEY COULDN’T DO LAST SATURDAY, COACH IF YOURE WATCHING UATV RIGHT NOW, PRACTICE THAT!!!! AND NOICK FOWLES CAN COME OUT AND SHOW WHY HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE STARTER, WE SHOULD BE ALRIGHT. AGAIN, HOLD THE OFFENSE TO UNDER 250 YARDS, GET THE BALL TO GRIGSBY MORE THAN 15 TIMES, AND COMPLETE THOSE DEEP BALLS FOR ONCE, THE CATS SHOULD BE CELEBRATING AGAIN ON SATURDAY. 24-17 CATS.

WELL GUYS I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “DAVE GULLMAN IS MY PERSONAL IDOL” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWN AND ILL SEE YA AT THE GAME.

BRAND FOR ALL THAT YOU DID, AND BEAR DOWN.WELL CATS, I THINK THAT’S GONNA DO IT FOR ME, THIS IS ALEX “WE ONLY NEED 4 MORE WINS FOR ANY KIND OF BOWL GAME” BUDISH SAYING BEAR DOWM, AND ILL SEE YA AT THE GAME.

Reflecting, (A personal moment on my job)

These past two weeks have been some of the greatest experiences of my life, and also some of the most life altering. Working at KOLD is so much fun, the hectic and always moving environment is the exact situation I want in my internship and my career. I feel that working under pressure and having a deadline for every assignment really has helped me tune my work ethic, which has then allowed my work to be that much better. I want to be a sports broadcaster, and the life that everyone believes that they lead couldn’t be further from the truth. Most think that the anchor just shows up, reads what on the teleprompter, and goes home, but there is so much more. All sports anchors at KOLD film their own segments, find all the highlights, log all the tape, and record all their audio. Then, they all come back to the studio and edit, dock, log, and transfer their film into the shows tape for that night. All of this is done just an hour or so before the show goes on, and when they are finished with that, they then go back and write their own scripts. I was initially scared of all these huge daunting tasks in front of me, but my boss told me that this is just the way it is, that I’ll get the hang of it right away and it will eventually just become second nature to me. After being there for two weeks, I can honestly say that he couldn’t have been more right. I think my personality helps here to, you need to have fun in this job. You spend so much time with the people you work with that you need to have a sense of humor to survive at times. Its also good to get to know as many people as you can, which I always try to do anyway. When we go to cover any high school or wildcat games, we see the same people every time, so its always nice to be on good terms.

With all of this said, this job can be very stressful at times. Some questions that I have been thinking about where, “How long am I going to go without getting a job offer after college?” The economy is so bad, its hard for television companies to give out new jobs, so you have to be at the top of your game, always. Also, “When will my personal life come back once I get a job offer?” My boss had told me that, “If you have a girlfriend at the beginning of this job, either marry her or break it off.” When you start, you have absolutely no free time, and its hard to hold down a strong personal life. Finally, “Am I going to be able to reach the ultimate goal?” I want to be on SportsCenter more than anything in the world. However, that is the superbowl of anchor positions, and a lot of people find it impossible to reach. I never say impossible, and know that with hard work, and the lessons that I am learning at KOLD, that I can reach my dream. I cant wait to see what I learn this week.

My Recap of recent events (I am so good)

Hellllllooooooo sports lovers,
It has been so long since I've talked to you ( I know you've missed me), but lets get right on to it and talk sports. Goodness there are just so many things to talk about where to start first, but how about we start with the world champion Los Angeles Lakers! On the back of finals MVP Kobe Bryant, the Lakers went on to win their 15 championship in 30 tries, (you know I'm not a math major but 50 percent is pretty good in this situation). Also, they won it in just five games ( I think a certain blogger said that as well, see two blogs ago). A big part of the championship run was because of the lanky Lamar Odom and the shooter Trevor Ariza. In addition, even though I don't forgive him for the dreadful playoffs he had, I got to say thanks Derek Fisher, for hitting two of the biggest shots of your career. But the person who I thought performed second best, (cause you can't beat Kobe) was Pau Gasol. The Spanish chicken was the reason the Lakers made the run they did. With a great post presence and a quick step and dribble, Gasol easily became the biggest threat to score down low in the entire league, so good work big man. My goats of the playoffs are as follows: Sasha Vujacic, please your only job is to make a three, and you didn't hit one. Andrew Bynum, you were just awful I'm sorry, get into the gym and work out and stop being a baby (even though you look like one). And finally, Dwight Howard. Boo, just boo. You let down your team by not performing and basically saying that you gave up midway through, realize that you need to be the best player on your team and stop talking. And for giggles, lets just throw in Courtney Lee for missing two games winners (I could have made that layup, where's my contract?) All in all congrats to the Lakers, and its nice to see that Bill Russell MVP trophy in the hands of a genius. Moving on.
I have to give a quick shout out to the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, for winning a huge game 7, in Detroit. Also having to watch their captain go down in the second period, and still find a way to collect themselves and score two goals on a keeper that seems unbeatable at home. I have to admit I was pulling for them, purely because I consider the Detroit Red Wings the New York Yankees of hockey, its basically your job not to like them. So congrats to the city of Pittsburgh, I'm glad to see the cup in your town, because lets be honest, I don't see the Pirates winning the World Series anytime soon.
And finally, lets talk about the best sport in the world, women's field hockey (gotcha), I'm talking about college basketball of course. Now, I attend the highly respected University of Arizona or as I like to call it, the Harvard of Arizona. As you may or may not know, we have run into some hard times as of late for our once prestigious basketball program. However, things are finally turning around with the hire of Sean Miller, and a great recruiting  class in just under a month. The thing that keeps making me smile however, is the recent addition to the USC basketball program, and that would be their new head coach Kevin O'Neil. To this I just have to say, HA HA HA. Good luck USC, with a coach that doesn't work well with others and doesn't respond well to critics, he should fit in just fine with the Trojan program. Also, with the loss of every recruit in their class except one, the rest of the country should stand to benefit from their loss, especially Arizona, (cough Lamont Jones and Derrick Williams). All in all, it should be a very interesting year for the Pac-10. Well guys I think thats all I got for you know, until next time, bear down.

The Way Sports Are?

Hey all,
I wanted to dedicate this to the NBA finals again, but some things have come up in recent sports news that I wanted to cover, so if you aren't caught up on some of the sports news around the world, get ready because here we go. Lets start with a sport that is one of my personal favorites (there are so many after all), and that would be european soccer. The Premiership League more specifically. This week has seen some big moves for the leagues future, Real Madrid to be exact. Madrid has shaken up the 2009 season by first paying used to be a record setting $68 million euros (thats $94.05 million) to sign star player Kaka. Next, they topped themselves (who'd of thunk it), and payed Manchester United a NEW record setting $80 million euros ($131.6 million) for world and european soccer player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo. Now Ronaldo happens to be one of my favorite players in the world, but this move really angered me. This trade came at the request of Ronaldo who was "unhappy" at his United club. I'm sorry, I just don't see how playing on one of the most famous clubs in the world, and being adored by your whole team and country could make you frown. Also, it's not like you were earning pennies there either, so please do not tell me this was all about the money. But is this what professional sports have come to? I don't mean to get nostalgic but is it really all about the money now? This is why college sports are better than every professional sport. Those guys are playing to get paid, not playing because of the money (sorry O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush, you guys don't count).  I wish Ronaldo all the best with his future team, lets all hope he tries a little harder to like his fans this time around.
Moving on, I feel that I need to say this. To all those baseball fans bashing players like; Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco (ok you can bash him, he's just annoying), please, just stop talking. I know, they "ruined" America's past time, but I hate to burst your bubble, the game is already tarnished. Just because people haven't been identified as steroid users, doesn't mean they aren't there. The pitchers and hitters use, and if you can trust the game, you can't respect it. So get off the moral high horse and just enjoy the 110 mph fastballs and 500 feet homeruns.
The NBA finals are really the only thing is sports that are bringing me happiness, (I can't wait for NCAA basketball to start.) After watching the Orlando Magic become a completely different team and shooting 62.5% from the field will probably help to. But I want to discuss my idol, Kobe Bean Bryant. I'm sorry to say that the Black Mamba shot a very poor (for him) 44 percent and and even worse (for anyone) 5 for 10 from the line. With all that happening the Lakers still only lost by 2, I know the score was 108-104 Magic but I don't count two free throws with .02 seconds left in the game. So with a restored hope the Magic look to seize a pivotal game 4 and tie this series up. Look for the Magic to keep the high pick and roll offense going (since they've done it all playoffs), and get Turkoglu and Lewis their open threes. On the Laker side, they need to attack the weak spots of the Magic. Trevor Ariza has been left wide open the whole series, and is still shooting 30% from the field, he needs to hit those shots. Pau Gasol must get more involved in the offense, attack the high post and hit that 15 foot jumper. Kobe needs to come out angry tonight and attack the rim and dish if he's triple teamed! All in all I think the Lakers take a strong hold on the series tonight, Lakers win by 4.
I promise the next post will be more uplifting, and i'll make sure to bring some happy news next time.

A view on the NBA Finals.

I find it fitting that the first post on my new blog site is about the last round of the NBA playoffs. I know, I know, my timing is a little off, as we join the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic already two games deep into the series, with the Lakers on top two games to zilch. But I'm a glass is half full kind of guy so lets focus on the positive: there's still plenty of basketball left. Being from Los Angeles, I may have a little bit of bias towards this subject, but it's my blog so there. Watching the first game of this series I felt that Lakers played the best basketball of their postseason. They came out poised and ready, and showed a young and underprepared Magic team how to preform in the finals. Kobe Bryant had 40 points, eight assists, eight boards, 2 blocks, and 2 steals, while the Magic man Dwight Howard had a mere 12 points and 15 boards off one of six shooting. (Not gonna win to many games with your "best player" shooting six shots and then saying in his post game news conference that, "they have to play a lot harder than they did tonight." Are you kidding me? This is the NBA finals, probably time to bring the "A" game....but I digress.) Game two showed a much more "fierce" Magic team. Fierce being the operative word because if it wasn't for Rashard Lewis scoring 18 of the Magic's 20 points in the second quarter, it would have been another blow out. But again, it was inexperience that would prove to be the downfall of the Magic. When Kobe Bryant failed to ice the game with one second left due to a very nice and well timed block by Hedo Turkoglu, head coach Stan Van Gundy designed an amazing play with six tenths of a second that fooled the whole Staples Center, (and yours truly). Turkoglu made a beautiful alley-oop pass right into the hands of rookie Courtney Lee, and he missed the wide open layup, to WIN the game. Talk about a rough night. The Lakers went on to dominate the overtime period and now take this series back to Orlando up two games rather than tied at one apiece. Now its time to analyze. The missed layup by Lee is not only the kind of shot that can send a player into a slump, (especially for oh let's say a rookie on, oh I don't know, the biggest shot of his life for example), but also a team. I truly believe the Lakers have revealed the tricks of the Magic, and they need to strike while the iron is hot. If the post play remains in the Lakers favor (i.e. Gasol gets his 24 and 12, Odom gets 19 and 10, and Bynum can stay in the game for longer than five minutes at a time,) then it should give the Lakeshow the advantage they need to pull out a huge game three win. The important thing for the Magic to remember is that they are vastly superior behind the arc, have supposedly the best big man in the league, and have been in this situation before. Also, people need to realize that you cannot stop Kobe, you can only hope to contain him, I'll quote Denver Nuggets head coach George Carl, "Jesus would have had a hard time covering him." So good luck with that assignment. I'll end this post with extreme confidence in a Los Angeles Lakers team hungry for revenge for a terrible finals appearance last year, and with the best closer to ever play this game on your team (thats right I said best ever), I think they are ready for a post-Shaq title, Lakers in five. Also, to Mr. Lebron James, first you should learn how to play the game with respect then worry about winning a finals, don't worry, you can always try again next year. Enjoy the finals everyone, I know I will.
